FAQ
Hotel consulting, answered.
What hotel and restaurant owners ask most before starting a consulting, training or mystery shopper project.
About hotel consulting
What does a hotel consultant do?
+
A hotel consultant reviews a hotel or restaurant's operations, finances and guest experience, finds what is holding results back and works with the team to fix it. My work runs from diagnosis to implementation: processes, service standards, training, cost control and commercial strategy.
When should a hotel hire an external consultant?
+
When revenue or occupancy stalls, guest complaints repeat, staff turnover is high, costs are out of control, or you are opening, repositioning or selling a property. An outside view spots problems the internal team no longer sees. More in this article.
Do you only work with hotels?
+
No. I work with boutique and independent hotels, resorts, restaurants and hospitality and tourism businesses. Most of my training programs and audits apply to both lodging and food and beverage.
What is your experience?
+
Over 20 years in hospitality and tourism. I served as Director General of the Tourism Promotion Institute of Mexico City's Ministry of Tourism (2022–2025), coordinated the organization of Tianguis Turístico 2023 and was general manager of boutique hotels and restaurants. See my full background on About me.
Services
What services do you offer?
+
Six practice areas: training, administrative management, executive advisory, operational supervision and quality, public relations and alliances and mystery shopper.
Does your training include certifications?
+
Yes. I prepare teams for ServSafe certification and work with CONOCER competency standards (such as EC0305 Customer Service, EC0081 Hygienic Food Handling and EC0043 Room Preparation) and SECTUR quality guidelines, with certificates and audit-ready documentation.
What is a mystery shopper?
+
An evaluator who stays or dines as a real guest, without the team knowing, and scores every touchpoint against objective criteria. It shows the experience exactly as guests live it and turns it into a concrete improvement plan. More in what is mystery shopping.
What does the process look like?
+
Four stages: diagnosis of the current situation, an action plan with priorities and owners, implementation alongside your team, and follow-up with KPIs such as RevPAR, ADR, GOP and guest satisfaction.

Do you work outside Puebla?
+

How much does hotel consulting cost?
+
It depends on scope: property size, number of areas, duration and on-site presence. After a free first conversation I send a proposal with goals, timeline and investment.
Do you work in English?
+
